About Me
I’m Dr. Hagar, a clinical psychologist with an international background. Born in Israel, I spent several years in Brussels before moving to New York, where I lived for eight years. As a result, I’m fluent in both English and Dutch. I later moved to the Netherlands during high school, giving me firsthand experience of adapting to new cultures.
I understand the complexities of navigating different cultural environments, especially when growing up in a culture different from that of your parents. Many of my clients face similar challenges, and I’ve helped them address the impact of intercultural experiences on their mental health.
My Approach
Every individual is unique, and so is their path to healing. Rather than following a rigid protocol, I tailor therapy to your specific needs, taking into account your background and personal experiences. Therapy is a collaborative process—we work as equal partners, ensuring that you remain in control every step of the way. Regular evaluations help track progress and ensure that the treatment aligns with your evolving goals.
My approach is built on empathy, trust, and respect. I aim to provide you with insight into your thoughts and behaviors, empowering you to take control of your life. In addition to deeper self-awareness, I offer practical tools to help you navigate difficult situations.
I have extensive experience treating a wide range of psychological challenges, including but not limited to depression, burn-out, ADHD and trauma. My therapeutic toolbox includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, mindfulness, psychodynamic therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Education & Research
I hold an Honours Bachelor and a Research Master from the University of Amsterdam, followed by a PhD from Utrecht University. My doctoral research explored the transition to parenthood—examining how couples navigate the changes and stress of having their first child.
During my academic journey, I published research on topics including multilingualism, trauma, and religion. While I found research fascinating, my true passion lies in working directly with people. After seven years in a large institution, where I completed my training as a Healthcare (GZ) psychologist, I decided to start my own practice. This allows me the flexibility to tailor treatment more effectively to each individual.

Online therapy
I’ve chosen to offer therapy online because it’s flexible, accessible, and easy to integrate into daily life. I work with an online program which enhances the therapeutic process. Through the program, you can track your emotions, record thoughts or exercises, and receive feedback from me in between sessions. This interactive approach helps make therapy even more effective and engaging.
If you’re ready to take the first step, I’d love to support you on your journey.

Specialisations and Expertises
Burnout & Work-Related Stress: In about 10 sessions, we’ll explore how you respond to work-related stress and equip you with tools to manage it effectively.
ADHD Treatment: This typically begins with 2 hours of diagnostics, followed by 10 sessions focused on understanding ADHD and working toward personalized goals in areas where you experience challenges.
Culture-Related Issues: Your cultural background is always considered. If you struggle with cultural differences or adapting to a new environment, therapy will focus specifically on addressing these challenges.
Anxiety & Panic: Using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure techniques, we’ll work over 8-12 sessions to reduce symptoms and help you face anxiety-inducing situations with more confidence.
Depression: Over 8-12 CBT-based sessions, we’ll address negative thought patterns that contribute to your depression, helping you regain a sense of control and well-being.
Trauma & PTSD: Using Imaginary Exposure or Imaginary Rescripting, we’ll work to process traumatic experiences so they no longer trigger intense fear or sadness. On average, 10 sessions are needed.
Low Self-Esteem: We’ll explore the past experiences and underlying issues affecting your self-esteem, then work on processing and resolving them. Treatment typically takes 10-15 sessions.
Eating & Weight Issues: Eating concerns often stem from deeper psychological factors. Together, we’ll uncover and address these underlying causes. On average, 10-15 sessions are needed.

Fees
Reimbursement
The treatments I offer fall under the Generalist Basic GGZ (GB-GGZ, the treatment of mild to moderate mental health issues) and are reimbursed by the basic health insurance in the Netherlands. This means that, after payment of the deductible, you are always entitled to a reimbursement if you have a Dutch health insurance policy. I work without contracts with health insurance companies. The amount of the reimbursement depends on your health insurer and policy and usually varies between 70% and 85%. I use the maximum rates set by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) . If you have a waiting period of more than 14 weeks with a comparable contracted healthcare provider, you may be eligible for 100% reimbursement by the insurance.Uninsured care
It is possible that there is no DSM-V diagnosis or a diagnosis that is not covered by insured care, such as an adjustment disorder or relationship problems. In that case, you will pay a rate of €138.15 (per 45-minute session), as determined by the Dutch Healthcare Authority for 2025. Sometimes partial reimbursement is possible from the supplementary insurance.
